Oh Say Can You...Lift Every Voice?

Now I wouldn't normally link to "Faux" News but here is an interesting story a friend sent me.

Jazz singer, Rene Marie, was asked to perform the Star Spangled Banner for the mayor of Denver's annual address. Homegirl did a remix. She used the lyrics from "Lift Every Voice and Sing" (the Black National Anthem) and sang them to the tune of the original national anthem. Obviously no one knew she was going to do this. I can only imagine the looks on their faces. Yikes!

Many Denver residents and some city council members have expressed outrage. Rene did apologize, however, and said that she only wanted to "make a creative expression of her love for the country."

Now I'm not gonna mess with Renee because she is a Virginia native and she's definitely the real thing. I checked out her website and after hearing her music, all I can say is keep lifting your voice girl.
