Is it just me or were the 2008 Olympics the most refreshing thing I've seen on TV in years? Maybe it's because TV basically sucks nowadays or maybe the Olympics were that good. Whether we're talking Usain Bolt breaking both the 100m and 200m records in a single Olympic Games or Michael Phelps winning 8 freakin gold medals...the most ever in a single Olympic Games...the 2008 Olympics will be one of the most memorable games ever.
So many stories within a short 16 day period. The Redeem Team took back their golden crown. They had something to prove and they did it. And what about beach volleyball? Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor destroyed every competitor in their path. Those girls haven't given up one set...in two Olympics!!! How big is that?
USA swept gold in the 4 x 400 relays. Not to mention the emotional comeback from the women's team. Simply amazing. And perhaps the most bittersweet story of all was Hugh McCutcheon's, the men's volleyball coach whose father-in-law was killed in Beijing at the start of the Olympics, yet he remained focus enough to coach his team to a gold medal. The first gold for men's volleyball in 20 years. Amazing.
The Olympics was reality TV on performance enhancement drugs (heehee). What's up next? Two months of the most intense coverage of the biggest race of our lifetime. Let's hope Obama walks away with gold.
